Safety & Health Expo

Why Barbour exhibits at Safety & Health Expo

One of the most important questions a company asks itself each year is: how do we market ourselves? Barbour EHS Brand Director Teresa Higgins explains the benefits of trade shows.

Barbour team

“Marketing helps us generate leads, promote our brand, build client relationships and understand our customers’ needs. But since digital and social marketing is so easy and cost effective, companies often forget to invest in different ways of reaching customers.

“Barbour asks itself these questions every year. How many emails is too many? How much should we spend on social channels such as LinkedIn? What about industry events and trade shows?

“The latter is a particular concern, as attending events can consume enormous amounts of time and money.”

So, What makes Safety & Health Expo special?

“The event brings together top professionals from across the health and safety landscape, providing a venue for the products, solutions and ideas shaping the industry. With around 14,000 guests attending across three days, it’s essential for Barbour to be present on the show floor.

“Safety & Health Expo is unique in that it caters for the entire health and safety industry alongside three co-located shows focused on fire safety, security and facilities management. By setting up a dedicated Barbour stand, we can reach tens of thousands of professionals from a broad cross-section of all three industries.”

Communicating with our customers

“But it’s not just about having a great stand. Over the last few years, we’ve learned that the most important thing for ensuring a successful event is preparation and organisation.

“We communicate with our existing and potential customers for months prior to the show to ensure our stand is beneficial to them. This might mean giving training to members of the team, taking a closer look at new service developments, spend more time researching critical topics, and taking other steps to improve our service. We ultimately want to communicate the message that Barbour is constantly here to support our customers, learn from their feedback and build strong relationships with them.

“This is, of course, hard work. Our client-facing teams each book slots with their clients and prospects and ensure they have plenty of time to address the individual needs of each customer.”

Evolving our presence

“This year, our event presence is continuing to evolve. To better reach our customer base, we’ve decided to exhibit across two stands: one at Safety & Health Expo to launch our new service (after all, what better way to get feedback than face-to-face?); and another at the co-located fire industry event FIREX International to conduct research to get a better understanding of what information fire and security professionals need to undertake their day to day roles.

“Our entire team works together to ensure the event is a huge success – both for us and our clients. Safety & Health Expo provides an immense return on investment year-on-year, both financially and in terms of teambuilding and development. It has helped us to boost team spirit, enhance and create client relationships, and establish a good understanding of the challenges faced by the health and safety profession.”

Barbour will be exhibiting at Safety & Health Expo at Stand SH1210, and at FIREX International at Stand FX353. Both events take place at London’s ExCeL from 18-20 June 2019.
