RoSPA at SHExpo: Hear the real impact of injuries and fatalities
Three inspirational speakers will share their real-life stories of the devastating effects a workplace accident can have on employees, and their families, at this year’s Safety and Health Expo.
As part of RoSPA’s new drive to create a nationwide movement of individuals and organisations sharing their stories and experiences, to help others to avoid accidents, the speakers will be at the charity’s stand at Expo from June 21-23, at 1pm each day.
Jason Anker was paralysed from the waist down following an incident on a construction site in 1993, when he fell off a ladder. On day one of Expo, he will tell the story of his life before the accident, what happened on the day, and how his life has been irrevocably changed since.
On day two, attendees will hear from RoSPA Archangel winner Paul Blanchard, who suffered a life-changing accident after falling from height while fixing a roof at a farm.
Then on day three, Jennifer Deeney will tell the story of her husband, Kieron, who was killed in a workplace accident 13 weeks after their wedding day. She will give an account of how avoidable workplace deaths affect the lives of those left behind.
Julia Small, head of awards and events at RoSPA, said: “The health and safety industry can talk all day about how important it is to make sure employees are safe and healthy, but it is only when you hear from those who have been directly affected by the devastation of accidents that you realise just how vital it is.
“We have three very brave speakers coming to Expo to share their experiences, in the hope that they can prevent the same heartache happening to others.”
This year’s Expo also coincides with the London leg of the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards 2016, taking place on June 21.
As always, RoSPA’s Expo stand (M2150) will offer educational content in the Join the Conversation sessions which offer visitors the chance to listen and share their experiences on key topics, find out about membership packages, discover more about its new brand, get advice and discounts on a full range of training and consultancy services, and the chance to win a National Diploma Course.
And for the second year running, RoSPA will be presenting a series of seminars at the Fleet Safety Theatre in conjunction with Driving Monitor, where the latest trends and techniques for driver safety will be showcased.
