G4S scoop top honour from FM body

The inaugural award for outstanding contribution to facilities management from industry body the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), Ireland Region, has been presented to security company G4S Integrated Services.

G4S’s entry detailed the operational and facilities management at Dublin’s Criminal Courts of Justice, which opened in 2010. It was commended by the judges for its professionalism and the active part it played in ensuring workplace activities are delivered in a sustainable manner. The award was presented at the BIFM’s annual conference in Belfast, which was attended by 200 delegates from Ireland’s facilities management community.

G4S’s John Farrell said: “We are delighted and honoured to be the first recipient of this prestigious award. The team worked extremely hard on this project and it is wonderful to see it recognised by the facilities-management industry body.”

Explaining why the award was introduced, Danny McAuley, BIFM Ireland’s regional chairperson, said: “We felt it was important to recognise the hard work companies put into ensuring that the buildings we work, play and live out our lives in are run as efficiently and as effectively as they are.

He added: “So often, facilities management is not seen as a key player, but perhaps that is because, when done well, no one should be aware of it.”

Commercial real-estate company CBRE and the Waterford Institute of Technology were runners-up.
