Eyecare- ICE vouchers
Intelligent Corporate Eyecare (ICE) has launched what it says is the most important service yet for employers, employees and opticians alike, in terms of VDU regulation compliance.
The 1992 Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations (amended in 2002) require employers to provide all employees who use visual display units with eye tests when requested, and with glasses, if required. However, many employers are still concerned by the cost and administrative burden that compliance currently entails.
ICE says it has addressed these concerns with its single voucher, covering both eye test and spectacles, which is passed electronically from the employer directly to the employee. At a cost of just £25 for the entire process, employees can visit the optician of their choice, and upgrade their glasses to suit their individual lifestyles. Furthermore, adds ICE, even those employees not eligible for glasses for VDU use will receive a significant contribution towards the cost of their private prescription spectacles.
ICE (a division of Duncan and Todd Opticians) brought in Adrian Taylor, who has a proven track record in developing the well-known VDU eyecare systems at both Accor and Specsavers, and challenged him to develop a service that would revolutionise corporate eyecare.
