Eye protection – Wraparound-style prescription safety glasses

Specsavers Corporate Eyecare recently launched wraparound-style prescription safety glasses.

The company says the new design is positive in terms of style and safety. The wraparound-style glasses are found by some to be more comfortable than traditional safety glasses and this, coupled with a more modern look, means that the glasses are more likely to be worn, according to Specsavers.

The glasses are available in blue/crystal or clear. They are made of polycarbonate plastic, so are hard-wearing but lightweight. The wraparound styles are available as an alternative choice under the standard safety vouchers from Specsavers. They cost the employer £36.81 for single vision CR39 prescription lenses and £73.62 for bi or varifocals.

Specsavers Corporate Eyecare says its research reveals that style of safety glasses is a significant consideration. More than half (52 per cent) of health and safety managers believe employees remove safety eyewear owing to discomfort, or poor fit. So, the vast majority (81 per cent) believe that style is important in evaluating safety eyewear. Only a third (34 per cent) do not allow employees to request their preferred style.
