Automatic external defibrillators- Live testing service

JPen Medical applauds initiatives like the British Heart Foundation’s campaign to increase the availability of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in workplaces.

However, the company’s own investigations found that even though AEDs

would pass a self-test to check they’re working, around 10 per cent

would fail a ‘live test’ by a qualified engineer.

Consequently, JPen Medical is now offering a live testing service, whereby an engineer visits the client’s site and carries out a detailed live testing schedule on their AED unit, which ensures, among other things, that it discharges a full set of stepped shocks, takes correct patient readings and discharges appropriately, the battery holds sufficient charge to discharge at the appropriate level, and that battery and pad expiry dates are logged and monitored.
