A big hand for glove firm’s success at entrepreneurial awards
Hand-protection specialist Globus is celebrating its triumph in a prestigious business awards programme.
At a recent ceremony in Manchester, Haraldur Agustsson, managing director of Globus (Shetland) Ltd, picked up the Ernst & Young (E&Y) Entrepreneur of the Year award for Original Product Design in the North of England.
The judging panel, which comprised independent national business leaders in the North of England, including Charlie Cornish, CEO of Manchester Airport Group plc, John Pettigrew, COO of National Grid plc and John Cuthbert, chairman of Northern Business Forum, praised Agustsson for having built Globus into a major player in the safety glove market from a relatively small starting capital.
Elaine O’Donnell, E&Y’s lead partner for the Entrepreneur of the Year programme in Manchester, said: “At a time when entrepreneurs are really feeling the pressure of a difficult economic situation, it’s important to celebrate those who have triumphed through their unique vision and determination to succeed.”
Agustsson will now represent the North of England at the UK finals in London in October, alongside the other regional winners. He said: “We are immensely proud to have been given this prestigious award, which I have pleasure in accepting on behalf of myself and our team, who work tirelessly to ensure our solutions are second to none.”
Entrepreneur of the Year celebrates leading entrepreneurs in the UK, recognising their role in job creation and boosting the flagging economy. It rewards individuals who, despite the tough environment faced by entrepreneurs, take calculated risks to turn their vision into successful businesses, demonstrating leadership, innovation, strategic direction, tenacity and entrepreneurial spirit.
