SHP Rising Star shortlist announced
The judges for SHP’s Rising Star award have selected their top five nominees for 2024.
Launched by SHP in 2015, and aimed at those under the age of 30, Rising Stars commends young health & safety professionals showing drive and determination in the early stages of their careers.
The finalists are…
- Francesca Boden, Safety Professional at the BBC – Her nominator said: “Francesca is a smart, inclusive and highly motivated and motivating person. I wish I was more like her when I was at the same stage in my career. Her values, passion and drive are enabling our team to move the dial on safety culture at the BBC.” Judges were impressed by Francesca’s excellent communication skills and technical capability along with spearheading for females in the profession.
- Jamie Hamilton, Health and Safety Co-Ordinator at The Odyssey Trust – Judges commended Jamie on his impact and commitment to the profession. His nominator said: “Jamie has shown unparalleled commitment to improving our safety processes and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. His proactive approach has not only strengthened our compliance but also fostered a culture of safety that extends beyond regulatory requirements”
- Kate Sawyer, Health and Safety Advisor at Gentoo Group – Kate’s nominator said: “Kate lives and breathes Gentoo’s corporate values every day in her role and cares about every colleague she supports by delivering at a high standard every time she completes a job. She takes accountability regularly within her role which shows the type of leader Kate is progressing to be.” Judges praised Kate for her versatile experience and tangible examples of excelling in health and safety.
- Harvey Brookes, Site Manager at Knight Build – Judges were impressed by Harvey’s impact and commitment to the profession, in his nomination it said: “Harvey’s efficiency truly set him apart, leading to the assignment of his own 3-man team. Under his management, they have been instrumental in upholding the high safety standards we prioritize on site. His ability to lead and inspire his team not only ensures compliance but also fosters a culture of safety and accountability.”
- Victoria Parsons, Trainee Health and Safety Advisor at Avon Fire and Rescue – Judges commended Victoria’s commitment and drive in the profession, with her nominator saying: “She actively advocates for females across the Service, especially with regards to female firefighters uniform, menopause awareness, and all aspects of women’s health. Her passion shines through in working groups, when putting together documentation, and even when having difficult conversations around all of these topics.”
- Conor Simmons, Health and Safety Advisor at St George PLC – Judges praised Conor’s behavioural and technical skills within health and safety in construction, with his nominator saying: ” Conor’s proactive engagement, dedication to continual improvement, and passion for promoting a safe working environment make him an invaluable asset to our team and a true rising star in health and safety.”

The winner of the Rising Star award will be announced live on Wednesday 3rd December at SHP’s partner show, Anticipate London.
