December 20, 2024This year saw million pound fines for the likes of Openreach and Tata Chemicals but also with smaller firms. From unsafe working conditions, missing or insufficient risk assessments to failing to implement their own safety policies, have a read of the biggest health and safety fines of 2024.
In August, a logistics company was fined £1 million after an employee fell over 10 metres and sustained serious injuries.

In June, Tata Chemicals Europe Limited was fined after a man died following an incident while erecting a scaffold tower in a chemical plant in Northwich.
In May, a Yorkshire metals recycling company was fined £1.2m after a worker was injured after being struck by a wagon at a processing site.
In November, the owner of Ginsters was fined £1.28 million after an employee was killed by a lorry that was delivering supplies to the bakery where it makes its pasties.
In June, Openreach Limited was fined £1.34 million after an engineer died whilst trying to repair a telephone line.
In November, a company was fined £1.6m after a 24-year-old man was crushed to death.

In January, a recycling company was fined £2.15 million after an agency worker was killed by a loading shovel at its site in Hartlepool.
In June, a construction company was fined £2.34 million following the death of a worker.
In July, a recycling company was fined after a man died and another was seriously injured while decommissioning a North Sea gas rig.
The largest fine came in September, when National Grid was fined more than £3million after safety failures left a father-of-two with life-changing injuries from working on a pylon in South Wales.
