Extra safety precaution for maintenance workers – Bilco

Access products company Bilco has launched its new Step Over Stair range, which it claims provides a safe means of passage via a short stairway over rooftop obstacles such as air conditioning or ventilation ductwork.

The Step Over Stair is available in either mill finished aluminium or galvanised steel and is designed to precise specifications, according to each site’s requirements, says the firm, adding that it is available as fixed (with penetrative fixing) or as a free standing stair.

Bilco explains that the fixed stair is bolted to the roof to provide a permanent safe route over long-term hazards in frequently accessed areas, while the free standing stair has adjustable legs to negotiate height variations, and does not penetrate the roof with permanent fixings.

Managing Director James Fisher says: “Flat roofs are often home to potential trip hazards such as ducting and plant equipment, which can prevent safe, easy access to specific areas of the roof space.  With more essential building services plant and telecoms equipment being situated on rooftops, our new Step Over Stair will be an additional safety precaution for service personnel who provide ongoing maintenance.”
