Skin care – Vidant barrier-forming foam

Protective barrier-forming foam Care Skin® Med from Vidant Pharma is about to be launched in the UK. The company says that, having listened to hospital and community nursing staff, it became clear that prolonged use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers was causing severe problems to workers’ hands, with many resorting to excessive use of hand creams to try to combat the problems, but with mixed success.

According to Vidant, Care Skin® Med does not sit on the skin but instead forms in the skin (stratum corneum) a highly-effective protective shield, which will give more than four hours’ protection, even if the skin is washed several times with soap, water, or disinfectant. It is described as non-greasy, invisible and lets the skin breathe.

It is said to help prevent contact eczema and skin irritation in patients, and be helpful for those with occupational eczema, laboratory workers, people with latex allergies, and those who work regularly with solvents, detergents and cleaning agents.

Available in a 75ml can CareSkin® Med is said to provide up to 150 applications, costing a few pence daily, and is equivalent to six 50mg tubes of a standard skin-protection cream.
