Offshore training – VHF communication course
Newcastle-based Maersk Training — a company that specialises in courses for the maritime, offshore oil and gas, and offshore wind sectors — has introduced a new VHF communication course.
Entitled VHF Communication for Offshore Personnel, the course has been designed to provide a basic understanding of marine communication, including reference to the rules, regulations and practical handling of handheld walkie-talkie radios.
The half-day course came about following a client inquiry, which highlighted a gap in the market, said Maersk. It is held at the company’s training centre in Newcastle, or delivered on site.
Course delegates study: the history of maritime communications; the use of language in VHF terms; and the different types of equipment needed. They will also gain a brief understanding of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) — described as an internationally-agreed set of maritime safety procedures, communication protocols and equipment types.
The new course starts in July. For further details and dates, contact Emma Pattison via [email protected]
