JSP Check, an asset management system that uses RFID technology, is a new innovation from JSP. RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification Device and is a data collection technology that uses devices (tags) for storing data.
The company originally planned to introduce JSP Check on its height safety equipment to give JSP a different offering to the market. However, after speaking to a number of customers, JSP says it realised that opening it up, so that customers are able to add tags to whatever assets they wish, will be much more beneficial for them.
Customers pay an annual fee that gives them the option to track as many assets as desired. To get customers started, JSP offers them an RFID starter kit containing two desktop scanners, an assortment of one hundred tags and a three-month trial. It is then entirely up to the customer whether or not they then wish to continue with the system after this period.
JSP adds that it will guide the customer for the first three months to make sure they know how to use the system correctly and that they experience all the capabilities that JSP Check offers.
The RFID system
JSP Check uses RFID tags to store information on any asset. The tags are then attached to the asset and put into general working life. As much or as little information as required, such as date of manufacture, product code, end of life date, images etc can be put on the tag. JSP says that the user is then able to set the location of the asset and the individual it is assigned to. Furthermore, they are able to see the location where the tag was last scanned.
JSP says that inspection schedules for each asset can be set, as well as notification schedules for reminder emails for upcoming inspections. Customised inspection forms can be created for the selection of items to inspect.
The inspection can be completed on an NFC-enabled smart phone or tablet via the JSP Check App; if there are any issues with the inspection, the system allows pictures to be taken to show what is wrong with the asset.
In addition, if the product is damaged, notifications can be sent to the relevant people to let them know that it is no longer fit for use and needs to be replaced. These people are able to view the inspection that took place on their computer and see why the product is damaged via the pictures taken during the inspection.
Should an issue arise with the product, the user will be able to see who last inspected it and find out what has happened to it. The information is held on a cloud-based server, so is updated instantly. JSP says that this means the use of paperwork is now non-existent, as everything is stored on the system itself, a simple clean filing system. However, if paper copies are also required, JSP adds that the option is available to print reports on recently completed inspections.
