Gas-detector batteries – Crowcon LIBRA
Crowcon’s LIBRA (Lithium ion Battery Replacement Assembly) battery is now available for use with all existing and new-build Triple Plus+ (TRP+) and Triple Plus +IR (TRP+IR) gas detectors. This makes the detectors even more versatile and dependable, says the company, with extended lifetime and charge cycles.
According to Crowcon, users can simply replace their lead-acid battery pack with a LIBRA without needing to modify their TRP+ or TRP+IR gas detectors, or change the charger. LIBRA is also said to provide power for 20-30 minutes after low-battery warning.
Based on customer feedback, the company says it has introduced a more forceful low-battery alarm indication – an improvement available as standard in all new-builds after November 2009 and by way of a service-replaceable Eprom upgrade.
Listing what it says are the benefits of Lithium ion batteries over competing technologies, Crowcon says they are generally lighter and provide more energy than equivalent lead-acid batteries; hold their charge and can be more effectively controlled by electronics; and have increased lifetime and charge cycles. LIBRA Li-ion batteries are also said to be more environmentally-friendly than alternatives.
