Gas analyser – Gasmet DX4040

Gasmet Technologies Oy (Finland) has launched the DX4040 – a portable FTIR gas analyser that is said to enable the field measurement of thousands of gases.

According to the company, the DX4040 is the second generation of the portable FTIR analyser, which brought the benefits of multi-parameter FTIR gas analysis to monitoring applications involving industrial safety, medical gases, fumigants/pesticides, soil gas, contaminated land, first responders/hazmat, fire investigation, toxic industrial chemicals, chemical warfare agents, and many others.

Up to 25 gases can be displayed simultaneously when operating the DX4040 with a handheld PDA, says Gasmet. However, the firm stresses that the most important development lies in the ability of the device to identify unknown gases in the field when using a new version of the unit’s Calcmet™ software on a Windows tablet pc.

Able to identify both organic and inorganic compounds, the device is said to be able to store sample spectra for post-measurement analysis using a chemical library of more than 5000 compounds. Operation is also described as extremely easy.
