Brake announces free road safety webinars

A series of free webinars on road safety have been arranged by a road safety charity Brake to help spread their message.

The webinars are specifically targeted at small businesses that employ drivers and are being delivered through Brake’s Fleet Safety Forum, with the support of the Department for Transport.

The webinars are designed to raise awareness of the main risks associated with driving for work, employers’ responsibilities in managing these risks, and benefits they can reap from managing them effectively.

According to the Association of British Insurers, at-work road crashes are estimated to cost UK employers £2.7 billion a year, and Brake claims that managing road risk can help to bring down costs. Incidents involving vehicles can be catastrophic for those involved, as well as for the business.

The benefits of preventing crashes, bumps and scrapes include lowering insurance premiums, improving reputation and staff morale, and reducing lost time.

The webinars will look at the steps businesses can take to save money and protect their employees and the wider community from the devastation a crash can cause.

The first webinar, Are your drivers working for you? takes place on 12 December 2013 and looks at influencing driver behaviour to improve safety and cost efficiency.

The second, Are your vehicles working for you? takes place on 30 January 2014, and looks at ensuring the safety of your large vehicles.
