Well Done- Safety passport scheme continues to grow

Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) Ltd launched the first safety passport in November 1999, and has subsequently issued over 130,000 passes across the UK. The passports were originally created for the petrol refining industry so that contactors could prove they had awareness in health and safety. The scheme has proved so successful that it has expanded to include a variety of other industries, which includes the railway, construction, shipping, pharmaceutical, and food sectors. In order to attain one of the passes contractors must attend a two-day training course, which focuses on the basic principles of health and safety, and is relevant to the industry sector that they work in.SPA managing director Ray Gibbs said: “The passport scheme benefits the bottom line of both the client and contractor as it reduces the time needed to be spent on site inductions. We plan to expand our business further by developing new passport initiatives. Schemes for the telecommunications sector and the facilities management sector are already in the final stages of development and will be launched in the near future.”
