During the day, the temperature reached 40 degrees but dropped below zero at night. Competitors had to carry everything on their backs, including bedding and food, but they were given water daily.Mike was too embarrassed to ask for sponsorship beforehand but lots of his colleagues have promised donations to charity in recognition of his achievement (he supports a charity that helps children from under-privileged backgrounds go on adventure holidays).Mike sustained a suspected ruptured cruciate knee ligament during the race and had to wear bandages all around his feet because of all the blisters!
