Unleashing a goldmine of Olympic legacy knowledge

The Major Projects Authority (MPA) – a partnership between the Cabinet Office, Treasury and other government departments – will oversee a new website of the Olympic Delivery Authority’s (ODA) Learning Legacy project.

The vast amount of knowledge and intelligence accrued by the Learning Legacy scheme on the London 2012 Olympics construction project, one of the largest in Europe, will be available on the website, so that it can be shared and used in future major projects in both the public and private sectors.

The website comprises more than 300 papers put together by the ODA and its supply chain of UK companies, as well as contributions from independent industry bodies and academics, and case studies and reports on ten themes, including health and safety and transport. It will be adding new case studies, reports and research papers from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and some of their partners and suppliers.

The current website has had 43,000 hits so far, 35 per cent of which were from overseas.

David Pitchford, executive director of the Major Projects Authority, said: “The London Olympics were a triumph of project management on a grand scale. Maintaining the Learning Legacy website forms an important part of our plan to apply the lessons of this success to other major projects.

“There are more than 200 complex schemes underway, some even larger than the Olympics, each vital to the future prosperity and security of this country. The Learning Legacy provides a goldmine of knowledge which we must not waste.”

The new website www.learninglegacy.independent.gov.uk will go live on 1 November. Meanwhile, Learning Legacy can be accessed at: www.learninglegacy.london2012.com
