University earns top marks in safety audit
Anglia Ruskin University has been awarded the highest possible accolade from RoSPA after entering for the charity’s Quality Safety Audit Award (QSA).
In March, a quality safety auditor from RoSPA visited the university to carry out a full health and safety audit, which lasted five days. The awards range from level one to the level five – the highest award. As a result of the visit, Anglia Ruskin received a level five award, which is an accolade held by no other educational establishment in the UK.
RosPA deputy chief executive, Errol Taylor, said: “QSA is RoSPA’s unique audit tool for making an in-depth assessment of an organisation’s overarching health and safety management system.
“Anglia Ruskin’s recent audit, its fourth in nine years, found that a great deal of good work, led by a team of dedicated professionals, is ongoing. A wide-range of issues is being covered including insurance, corporate risk, first aid and fire safety, all of which are being addressed in the challenging environment of a transient university population.”
The University’s vice chancellor, Professor Michael Thorne, added: “This top level award proves that we are doing everything we can, and more, to provide a safe and secure environment for our students and staff to work.
“We have always been ahead of other educational establishments and we are extremely proud that we are maintaining this position within the whole of the UK.”
