Union warns of agencies cashing-in on construction certification

Construction union UCATT is warning workers not to be misled into paying over the odds for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, or CITB health, safety and environment test.

CSCS cards are a mandatory requirement for workers who wish to work on most construction sites and in order to receive a card they have to pass the CITB test. UCATT has become aware that third-party agencies are charging substantially more than the standard fees for the courses and cards.€

CITB are to blame as the number of Test Centres has been drastically reduced since Prometric no longer run the test centres. We used to have a mobile unit visit Basingstoke which was well used but now our nearest centre is 30 miles away and the parking arrangements are not very good either. So the cost of fuel and the time involved sending someone to these new test centres has allowed these 3rd party test centres to increase. In addition, the booking system is far more complicated than before.
