Tata Steel: Contractor dies in machinery incident at steelworks
A worker has died after an incident involving machinery at Tata’s steelworks in Port Talbot.
Police and the Health & Safety Executive are investigating after a male contract worker was killed on Wednesday (25 September), in what has been described as an ‘isolated incident’.
It happened at about 14:00 and an air ambulance was on the scene shortly afterwards. A hazardous response area team was also in attendance.
South Wales Police released a statement from the scene, reassuring people that there was ‘no threat to the public’.
Tata Steel said that a ‘full investigation’ was underway and that its thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim.
In a statement, local Aberavon MP Stephen Kinnock described the deceased as a ‘young man’.
In April, two workers were injured at the Tata Steel plant following an explosion caused by a liquid iron spillage.
