Safety sign firm recognised by petroleum industry
Sign installation and maintenance firm Xmo Strata has won an award for its ‘unswerving commitment to behavioural change’ in relation to both its employees and clients.
The firm won the Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration’s (APEA) Health and Safety Award at a ceremony held last month at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena. The award recognised the firm’s commitment to safety in the forecourt industry and its pursuit of a ‘no-blame culture’ approach, which encourages diligent accident reporting and sharing of information.
The judges were impressed by the extent to which the company’s employees got involved in health and safety initiatives. They also praised the company for running an industry-wide Forecourt Safety Award, which is even open to competitors.
After receiving the honour, Xmo Strata’s managing director, Steve Martin, said: “Safety is a core business issue for us, as most people in the industry know, and like everyone else we occasionally make mistakes. When we do, the thing is to learn from them and, if possible, to help others by passing on precisely what it is we learnt.”
The award was presented in front of 600 guests, including forecourt owners, product/service suppliers, engineers, contractors, regulators and health and safety professionals.
