RoSPA pilots international safety training

Eight delegates from telecommunications firm Cable&Wireless took part in the four-day course, which led to each receiving a NEBOSH Award in workplace health and safety. The new scheme is aimed at companies that operate at a global level or outside of the UK, including those that have employees whose first language is not English. It is designed to provide delegates with awareness of health and safety management, and of the required standards for workplaces outside of the UK.Courses can also be tailored to cover legislation for specific countries and represent a step towards the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, and the NEBOSH National General Certificate.RoSPA workplace safety general manager, John Lester, said: “RoSPA has a rich history of offering training for NEBOSH qualifications and we are proud to have been chosen to pilot the new NEBOSH Award in Workplace Health and Safety. The UK has one of the best systems in the world for preventing accidents and ill health at work, and this new scheme will enable firms in other countries to benefit from this expertise in a highly-accessible way.”Cable&Wireless Worldwide head of health, safety, and environment Mike Humphrey added: “Organisations such as NEBOSH and RoSPA are internationally recognised as leaders in their field and we’re delighted to have been given the opportunity to assist in developing and delivering this new scheme. The scheme is a milestone in the way health and safety is managed outside of the UK and will form the basis of an international standard.”
