Research/reports- Studies on safety sought
IOSH is inviting researchers to apply for funding into studies that
further the Institution’s vision of a safer, healthier and more
sustainable workplace.
The IOSH Research and Development Fund has been running since 2005 and has so far invested around £1.5 million into various health and safety research projects. With a new round of applications now being sought, proposals could be based on a high-quality critical review, or an investigative research project.
Dr Luise Vassie, head of research and technical services at IOSH, said that investigation into many areas of health and safety practice is needed: “We know that health and safety in the workplace makes a huge difference to the lives of many people. But what we still need is the clear evidence to back our understanding of what does and doesn’t work, and make improvements.”
Successful applications are likely to use well-validated methods of either quantitative or qualitative research to address clearly defined questions. The Institution also expects that, where appropriate, applications for funding will include valid comparisons, be able to demonstrate sufficient power to produce useful conclusions, and control confounding factors.
Applicants should complete a stage-one application form and submit it, by 19 March, to [email protected] For more details about the IOSH research fund, please visit www.iosh.co.uk/researchfund
