Oil and gas HS&E professionals’ wages on the rise

A global survey has revealed that wages for health, safety and environment (HS&E) professionals in the oil and gas industry remain resilient.

The Salary Guide, produced by Hays Oil and Gas in partnership with jobsite Oil and Gas Job Search, showed that HS&E professionals with over 20 years’ experience earn average annual wages of $115,100 (USD) for permanent positions. Workers with between 10-20 years’ experience have an average salary of $86,500, while those 10-15 years’ experience are on $52,300.

The guide was compiled from responses by around 11,000 industry professionals and showed positive growth in salaries across more than 20 disciplines in the industry, and in some positions salaries have increased by 30 per cent year-on-year.

Oil and Gas Job Search managing director, Dunacan Freer, said: “I believe that HS&E professionals will soon reap the benefits of an industry that is enjoying high levels of confidence, investment and activity.

We have already seen staggering rises for contractors, sometimes as high as 30% (for some areas) since we conducted last year’s Salary Guide. Contractor rates are an excellent forward indicator of wage growth, so I am confident that it is only a matter of time before we see HS&E professionals permanent salaries reflect the strength of the industry.”
