SHP is leading the way digitally, with the move from a print publication to a purely online platform.

In the last three months, with a dedicated editorial team driving the content production of SHP, the health and safety news site has more than doubled its users. Over 2,500 people use the site every day and over half a million users have visited in the last year alone.

In reflection of the incredible increase in users and engagement of content, Roz Sanderson was promoted to editor of SHP in January this year, and is working alongside writer and editor Lauren Applebey who has worked as an editor for Barbour EHS, and spent time on The Times and The Independent.

Roz’s career as an editor has spanned national newspapers including The Independent on Sunday and the Financial Times, as well as the well-known Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine.

During her time with SHP’s parent company, UBM, Roz has worked for Barbour EHS, SHP Magazine, and SHP Online, working her way up to editor of SHP in three years, where she has doubled the number of annual visitors in under 12 months. In January, she won an award for her work in establishing the Women in Health and Safety network, which has been a hugely popular initiative within the profession.

Roz says: “Managing digital content is much more dynamic than managing print. We have retained the ability to publish in-depth features and interview with key players in the profession, but we are also able to embrace the possibilities that a digital platform can offer.

“We publish regular quizzes, eBooks, resources and videos that contribute to health and safety professionals’ continuing professional development. We also are able to remain flexible, we can see what’s working and adjust and adapt our output to reflect this.”

This is evident in the diverse audience engaging with SHP on the website and on social media.

“There is something for everyone on SHP,” continues Roz. “For directors focused on engaging the board, to students and new-starters who are just starting out on their career in health and safety. We have created a responsive, dynamic and engaging site that truly represents what the profession needs and wants.”

This core team, backed up by five editorial advisors consisting of Kizzy Augustin of Pinsent Masons LLP; Dr Dominic Cooper, B-Safe; Shaun Lundy, University of Greenwich; Professor Tim Marsh and Andrew Sharman, both of RyderMarshSharman, ensures that SHP is consistently publishing relevant and proactive articles for the profession.
