Health and safety has been such a passion for me that I gained my qualifications at my own expense and in my own time.”
Toby Guise, Associate Director for Health, Safety & Quality, commented: “Martin’s experience and knowledge will make him a tremendous asset to us. Health and safety is of paramount importance to our business and as we grow it is crucial that we have dedicated individuals at the forefront of the industry to ensure we are compliant at all times.”
Elsewhere, North West construction industry firm Innov8 has appointed a new safety advisor, Andy Black, to help the firm expand into new sectors including oil, gas and hazardous environments.

The Birkenhead and Manchester based firm delivers Construction Design Management (CDM) advice, Principal Designer support and site safety services.
Mr Black, a University of Reading graduate, has five years’ experience in the health and safety sector and recently returned to the UK after spending two years working in Australia and South East Asia.
Innov8 managing director Alan Robson said: “We have launched an ambitious three-year growth strategy aimed at increasing turnover to £1.6m by 2018.
“The appointment of Andy Black is a clear signal of our intent. Innov8’s recent expansion has been driven by a nationwide sales drive with project wins in the commercial, healthcare, maritime and education sectors the length and breadth of the country.
“But we have, in fact, witnessed strong, sustainable growth in each of the last seven years. We are a dynamic and passionate firm which is focused on making constant progress. Naturally, our growth has been supported by a number of new appointments in the last 12 months and Andy’s appointment will add a greater depth of skill and experience, specifically in the oil and gas industrial sectors.”
Mr Black, 29, who worked as a health, safety and environmental manager at Whelan Refining Ltd from 2008 to 2013, said he was attracted by Innov8 and parent company Lucion Environmental’s impressive growth figures, as well as its reputation for quality and customer service.
“My degree was in environmental science and I come from an oil and gas background so I am looking to offer something entirely new,” he said. “It’s a terrific opportunity to be joining a young, thrusting and energetic business. I will be looking to make use of my skills by broadening Innov8’s offering.
“In terms of site safety, I bring specialist environmental knowledge. For instance, any projects undertaken in difficult environments, in designated areas of outstanding natural beauty or involving hazardous waste are governed by strict controls. This is an area I will be looking to unleash my expertise.”
