New electrical association created
A new organisation, the Highway Electrical Association (HEA), has been formed by the amalgamation of the Association of Signals, Lighting and other highway Electrical Contractors (ASLEC) and the Highway Electrical Manufacturers and Suppliers Association (HEMSA).
The HEA represents more than 80 members, whose contracting activities include street lighting, traffic signals, highway communications and camera systems, as well as 40 members who manufacture, assemble, supply and distribute equipment into the highway electrical sector. Membership is open to any organisation operating in the highway electrical-contracting market.
Gareth Pritchard, chief executive of HEA, said: “This is an important and exciting step forward to bring renewed focus to providing member services and standards for all those working in the highway electrical sector.”
Announcing the new structure and organisation, ASLEC chair Mike Stephens said: “This is an historic association event and marks a step-change in the evolution of ASLEC and HEMSA.”
HEMSA chair Terry Dean added: “This important step has the unanimous backing of both Councils, as well as all the voting members, which has been very positive and encouraging. It brings a clear common aim to all organisations and individuals associated with the highway electrical sector.”
