Miscellaneous- The great hitch ditch
The agreement follows the involvement of the hitches in four fatal incidents over the 12-month period between December 2006 and November 2007. In response, the HSE sat down with manufacturers to discuss potential solutions, culminating in the agreement to stop supply as of October this year.
It means that those looking to buy quick hitches will now only be able to purchase manual or automatic versions. However, the use of semi-automatic quick hitches has not been made illegal; when used in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions, they can still be used safely.
Owners and users should also still be able to order spare parts of current semi-automatic hitches from manufacturers.
