IOSH president backs cycle safety competition

IOSH president Subash Ludhra has given his support to a new competition to discover an original warning symbol to prevent collisions between large vehicles, and cyclists.

The InTANDEM Road Safety Competition is supported by UK driving-feedback service, How’s my Driving?, and the winning entrant will receive £1000 for the most creative design. They will also see their symbol placed on the back of HGVs to encourage cyclists to take extra care when passing a large vehicle.

The competition was launched after new figures revealed that fatal and serious injuries amoung cyclists in London have exceeded the 2,500 mark, with 20 per cent of cycle accidents in the capital involving HGVs.

Subash Ludhra will be one of the judges for the competition and he feels the initiative is an innovative way to raise awareness about road safety. He said: “As a keen cyclist myself, having been knocked over by a vehicle, any initiative to help drivers and cyclists become more aware of each other on the roads that they have to share has got to be a good thing.”

The closing date for entries is midnight on 30 April 2012. Entries can be sent via e-mail to [email protected] or by post to: InTANDEM Competition, Freepost RSLY-ZTSG-JUEB, How’s My Ltd, Omega House, Unit 7 Sarbir Industrial Park, Harlow, CM20 2EU.€

How about a picture of a hearse with a line through it.

And the words “No Undertaking” below it.
