IOSH member shortlisted for Project Safety award

An IOSH graduate member has been commended for her work on an East Dunbartonshire schools scheme.

Joan Thompson, who works for design and engineering consultancy Morgan Sindall Professional Services, was shortlisted for Project Safety’s Project of the Year award. The award was open to entries from across the construction and engineering industry to showcase excellence in design and construction health and safety risk management.

Joan was recognised for her work on a major design and build modernisation programme for six secondary schools in East Dunbartonshire. The judges were particularly impressed that Joan had considered hazard reduction through design options. A judge commented: “An excellent system was in place for monitoring risks and communicating to all involved. Ease and safety in maintenance was clearly considered in the designs. Prefabrication of services reduced hazards but also reduced potential waste and there was evidence of good practice in site waste management.”

Joan received a commended in her category during the awards ceremony, which was held at the APS Annual Convention Dinner in Manchester. Morgan Sindall Professional Services managing director, John Jenkins, was delighted that Joan was shortlisted. He said: “Many congratulations to Joan on this achievement. This national recognition underlines the company’s expertise in working on large-scale public sector building programmes, delivering design-led solutions which reduce risk and add value.”
