HSE chair applauds quarrying sector’s safety performance
HSE chair Judith Hackitt joined key industrialists and regulators involved in the quarrying industry to learn how they aim to continue to meet their target of cutting workplace injuries.
The event was the latest meeting of the Quarries National Joint Advisory Committee, which formed in 2000 with the aim of halving reportable injuries in the industry by 2005, and a further 50-per-cent reduction by 2010. These targets were met ahead of schedule and the committee is now pledging to reduce injuries by an extra 15 per-cent year on year until 2015.
Hosted by Midland Quarry Products Ltd, the event was held at Cliffe Hill Quarry in Ellistown, Leicestershire and focused on exploring some of the safety challenges in quarrying and approaches to risk management. €
