Free information- Posters highlight impact of injuries on workers’ social lives

Promoting the importance of wearing gloves on site, the campaign by Marigold Industrial features two new posters, which construction firms can receive as ready-to-print artwork and place around their sites. According to Donald Gillespie, Marigold’s international marketing manager, the aim behind the posters is to make people stop and think about how an injury could impact on their life outside work.“A lot of traditional signage on sites tells workers what they have to do and wear, which is often backed up by tool-box talks and health and safety training,” said Gillespie. “What we wanted to do was take a fresh approach with the posters and try to be more thought-provoking as to the impact a hand injury could have on [workers] on a personal and social front.”Meanwhile, workplace dermatitis is the subject of a high-profile campaign by the British Safety Industry Federation. The campaign, which was kicked off in partnership with the HSE, is now entering its second phase, the cornerstone of which will be the message of ‘Avoid, Protect and Check’.This involves: avoiding direct contact between unprotected hands and substances, products and wet work, where reasonably practical; protecting the skin in those situations where avoiding contact is not possible or practical; and checking hands and other at-risk skin areas regularly for the first signs of itchy, dry or red skin.”To obtain the Marigold artwork, call 0845 075 3355, or e-mail [email protected] For more information on workplace dermatitis, call the BSIF on 01745 585600.
