Free H&S advice for Welsh SMEs
Welsh SMEs are being urged to take advantage of a free service, which offers advice on improving their health and safety practices.
The Workboost Wales initiative has been set up by independent health advice organisation Public Health Wales. It offers free and confidential advice to businesses with, fewer than 250 employees, across all sectors.
The service aims to provide guidance for companies that are making their first steps towards creating a safer working environment. Depending on the nature of the business, Workboost Wales can give advice over the phone, or a local advisor will arrange an appointment to visit the company’s premises.
The advisor will assess the company’s existing health and safety practices and suggest low-cost changes to reduce the risk to staff. They will then work with the company to help implement these recommendations’ over a series of follow-up visits.
Workboost Wales programme manager Carol Owen said: “Implementing safe working practice and promoting the well-being of staff is cost-effective for businesses, as it can lead to a reduction in absenteeism and lost business. Our advisors will help come up with cost-effective solutions to problems they may be experiencing. These changes can be as simple as raising the height of a computer screen.”
