Excellence in construction health and safety recognised
Individuals and companies who have really made a difference to health and safety in the construction industry were honoured at a gala event last week.
The Construction Health & Safety Group hosted its Annual Dinner and Awards in London on 7 March to recognise and acknowledge outstanding commitment to health and safety.
Winners on the night were Martin Apps, who was named Trainer of the Year, and Morgan Sindall plc, which was recognised for Continuous Commitment to Training. New this year was the Silver Helmet Award, for outstanding personal commitment to promoting health and safety in the construction industry. The striking trophy, designed and sponsored by JSP Ltd, was presented to All Day Safety Services Ltd.
Outgoing CHSG president Mike Robinson received the Chairman’s Special Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Group.
The prestigious Beaumont Safety Trophy, sponsored by Pinsent Masons LLP, was awarded to Lovell Partnerships Ltd for its new working methods to prevent construction industry accidents. Other winners on the night were:
- Southside Decorators & Refurbishment Ltd – New-Comer;
- Ardmore Construction Ltd and Knight Harwood Ltd (joint winners) – Principal Contractors;
- Fairview New Homes Ltd – Housebuilding; and
- Bam Construction Ltd and Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd (joint winners) – Major Contractors.
Checkmate Lifting & Safety LLP was commended for its innovative Atom-X fall-arrest block in the world; PPE manufacturer JSP Ltd was highly commended for its CR2 Reflective Industrial Safety Helmets; and Mulalley & Co Ltd was also highly commended for new working practices for the management of safety and culture.
Speaking after the event, Wendy Emery, CHSG’s learning and development director, said: “On behalf of the Group, I would like to say huge congratulations to all of the winners and a big thank you to everyone who entered, supported and sponsored us on the night.
“It is great that we have been able to introduce two more awards this year and, as usual, the quality of the award entries is testament to the effort and commitment to safety and training from the companies.”
