Engineering firm wins safety and environment awards
Global engineering firm Black & Veatch won two honours at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association’s (CECA) North-East Regional Awards 2010.
The event, which was held at the Marriot Gosforth Hotel, Tyne and Wear, saw Black & Veatch pick up the ‘health and safety company of the year’ award for the second year in succession. The honour recognises the company’s continued commitment to improve safety standards through creativity and innovation.
The company also won the ‘environmental company of the year’ category. Its entry focused on a recently completed refurbishment project undertaken at Howden Wastewater Treatment Works for Northumbrian Water.
Black & Veatch created a plan to manage the project’s environmental impact, which included material reuse, segregation of waste for recycling, establishing a site waste management plan to reduce waste generation by 10 per cent, and aligning the supply chain with the environmental objectives of the project.
