Driving for work – Business drivers urged to come clean on licences
Business-driver training company TTC Automotive is reminding organisations to check their employees’ driving licences if they drive on business.
It is also calling on employees to inform their boss if they have any health issues that could affect their capacity to drive.
“Businesses are legally responsible under health and safety legislation and have a duty of care to ensure all business drivers hold a valid driving licence and are fit to drive,” Simon Baugh, a director of TTC Automotive, pointed out.
He cited the case of a national firm that recently had a close shave when one of its drivers had their driving licence revoked because of ill health, but neglected to inform their employer.
“It nearly got under the radar but for the checks we made,” said Baugh. “We discovered that the licence had been rescinded but the employee had not made the company aware of this, despite the fact that they were still driving a company car. This exposed the company to a massive potential risk.”
This eBook will guide you through some of the key understandings you need to be able to manage driver safety effectively and, at the end, provide a series of free resources you can access to help you ensure your own driver safety management system is robust, legally compliant and in line with industry-accepted good practice.
