Construction- Procurement package
Among the items now available is a self-assessment tool for businesses that procure construction work. The free tool helps organisations assess whether or not they are compliant with their CDM duties, points them towards guidance, provides a benchmarking facility, and allows them to record actions against their assessment, which is summarised in a one-page report.
The tool will also be used to carry out research, in partnership with the British Property Federation, on how the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 are working in practice, and their impact on clients. An interim report on the research findings will be published in the first quarter of 2009. Ian Simms of Royal Mail, who led the research project for the CCG, said: “The results, we hope, will give CCG a strong evidence base to contribute fully to the UK CDM regulatory package and European directive over the next few years. CCG strongly encourages any business that is, or is about to, procure construction work to spend 15 minutes of their time contributing to the research.”
Other elements making up the package include key performance indicators for health and safety in the construction industry; an information sheet to help clients understand what is meant by the arrangements requirements in regulation 9 of CDM; and an information sheet on client good practice.
