The majority of construction buyers are yet to adopt PAS91 despite growing awareness of the tool, according to a report from Constructionline.
The BIS-Capita partnership surveyed 157 construction services buyers about the government’s standardised pre-qualification tool, which aims to reduce costs and prevent the duplication of pre-qualification data.
While over half of those surveyed (57 per cent) said they were familiar with PAS91, 56 per cent have not adopted it as a means of pre-qualifying suppliers.
Just under half of those (46 per cent) claimed that a lack of understanding was preventing them from taking it on.
Constructionline director Philip Prince said that while the growing awareness is a promising start for PAS91, it needs a push from the wider construction industry in order to ensure its adoption.
“Our industry’s continued recession, while finally showing signs of alleviating, continues to place pressure on buyers and suppliers alike,” he said. “With time precious and resources limited on both sides, standardisation of what’s recognised to be an overly laborious and repetitive pre-qualification process is in the best interest of all.”

I have within the last 4 months completed the tedious pre qualification form filling exercise,I was under the impression once companies had been accepted by SSIP, all “THE BIG” companies would take on board then PAS91 system.
Most do not even know what PAS91 is??
Quantity Surveyors, Company Buyers,Health and Safety Depts need educating that form filling is repetitive and time consuming
