CEMEX wins multiple honours for safety awareness strategy
Building materials company CEMEX UK has won two awards at the Mineral Products Association (MPA) Health and Safety Awards.
The firm received the Special Award from the MPA, which is the trade association for the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, lime, mortar and silica sand industries. The award is recognition of CEMEX’s support and promotion of cycling safety events across the country. In the past 12 months, the company has supported 40 cycling safety events and has distributed cycling safety leaflets to more than 3000 school children.
The company’s asphalt plant in Liverpool also won the Blue Circle Trophy Award for its innovative approach to creating greater safety awareness among small contractors who collect from its facility.
A further 17 of the company’s entries were highly commended, or received certificates of merit, and 10 CEMEX employees were recognised for their contribution to promoting best practice in health and safety.
Vice president of CEMEX readymix and mortars division, Chris Leese, who is also chair of the MPA health and safety committee, said: “We must congratulate everyone from CEMEX who has been involved in the many worthwhile projects and initiatives which help to raise the health and safety standards in our workplace and, on this occasion, received recognition for their hard work. We must continue to be vigilant and aim to achieve ‘zero harm’.”
