Campaign – drink and drugs- Charity aims for more alcohol clarity

The trial will involve visits to small and medium-sized enterprises from a variety of industry sectors in the Tameside area of Manchester. The charity will talk to employers about putting alcohol policies in place, and hold workshops with staff, informing them about the dangers of alcohol misuse. In a recent alcohol awareness campaign called Clarity, the charity visited more than 6500 businesses in Liverpool and ran a mocktails (alcohol-free cocktails) roadshow.Project manager of the latest campaign, Keith Gorman, said: “Work-related alcohol misuse is a serious issue, costing the economy up to
£6.4 billion a year, with 17 million working days lost annually in England alone, due to alcohol-related sickness. The Clarity campaign in Liverpool has raised awareness of this issue, and brought about genuine improvements in the health of the city. We are hoping for similar successes in Tameside.“This campaign is not about stopping people drinking, it’s about encouraging employees to adopt a sensible attitude to alcohol consumption, and helping employers develop policies to tackle issues, or potential issues, of alcohol misuse.”
