Birth of new professional body for gas-safety managers

Former gas registrar for Britain CORGI Technical Services has launched the Association of Gas Safety Managers (AGSM), in response to demand from gas managers undertaking CORGI’s vocationally-related qualification (VRQ) in Gas Safety Management.

Through addressing industry issues with key stakeholders, the Association aims to create a single voice for the sector to engage with relevant government departments. It will also provide members with support, networking opportunities, training and other benefits.

The AGSM’s founding members consist of more than 100 gas-safety managers in social-housing and facilities management organisations. Members will be able to attend events, including the existing Inter-Authority Gas Forums and networking events. Its first annual conference will take place next year on 24 April, at the Belfry in Birmingham.

Claire Heyes, CORGI’s joint CEO, commented: “The VRQ, which we set up last year, has proved very popular and of immense value to those who have taken it, helping to raise standards in gas safety. The Association will allow managers to be recognised by a professional body, help them raise standards in their industry, and ensure their organisations are working to the highest safety standards.”
