Big jump in Midlands-based safety vacancies
New research carried out by NEBOSH has revealed that safety practitioners are most likely to find senior management jobs in the Midlands with an annual salary of around £44k.
The 2012 NEBOSH Jobs Barometer was conducted between 27 February and 12 March and examined 100 nationally advertised jobs for health and safety managers or advisors. The analysis showed that in nine out of 10 cases, recruiters sought applicants who had a NEBOSH qualification, or an IOSH technical membership.
The average top-end salary advertised was £44,000 a year, which was down by £1000 year on year. The number of available jobs had not changed but the majority of vacancies (30 per cent) were located in the Midlands, which represents a big jump from last year when only 16 per cent of the roles were based in that region.
Commenting on the findings of the research, NEBOSH chief executive Teresa Budworth said: “Obviously we’re delighted that more employers than ever before are insisting that health and safety job applicants hold a NEBOSH qualification.
“But what’s more important is that high standards are not just being maintained but are improving. This is crucial if employers are to protect lives, prevent injury and avoid the negative effects of poor health in the workplace.”
NEBOSH will be exhibiting on stand C40 at Safety and Health Expo, which takes place at the NEC Birmingham on 15 -17 May 2012. To register for the event click here.
