Behaviour forum shares communication tips
More than 40 health and safety practitioners from a variety of industries gathered last month in Northamptonshire to discuss how to influence health and safety behaviour through communication.
The event was organised by safety communications agency Hill Solomon and took place at the Dunchurch Park Hotel in Rugby. This was the second year that the agency had run its client benchmarking and network event, which featured speakers who provided insights into launching and sustaining HS&E communications campaigns.
The event was opened with a group of singers and dancers who provided a musical take on safety messages. Guest speakers included representatives from the MITIE Group, South West Water, and the Change in Action group.
Hill Solomon managing director Clare Solomon said the event was well received. She said: “We were delighted with the success of this year’s forum, which provided an excellent opportunity for health and safety professionals to meet up and talk about the successes and challenges of getting their health and safety messages across to their workforce.
“Successfully communicating safety and health messages to the workforce is key to influencing behaviour change and, ultimately, reducing harm to people. It’s not all about smart graphics and clever concepts; success also relies on understanding your audience and ensuring that the right channels of communication are adopted.”
