Annual RoSPA award-winners announced

More than 1750 organisations triumphed at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards at the NEC last week in a year that the Society says was a record for the number of entries received.

Stepping up to the podium at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel to collect the highest award – the Sir George Earle Trophy – was engineering construction firm, Doosan Babcock. The company, part of Doosan Power Systems, designs, supplies and constructs advanced steam-generation technology for the power industry. The judges were particularly impressed by the strategic approach to health and safety adopted by board members and senior managers, and by their commitment to providing visible leadership at all levels.

The company also won the engineering construction industry sector award. Doosan Power Systems’ CEO, Iain Miller (pictured centre with Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA chief executive, left, and Lord Brougham and Vaux, RoSPA vice-president) commented: “We are very proud to be recognised by winning the Industry Sector award, however, Doosan Babcock  also being awarded the Sir George Earle Trophy is a truly superb achievement and is testament to our people and their proactive efforts.

“The awards are further recognition of our exceptional health and safety record and the strength and commitment of all of our employees who have supported the company’s objective of world-class health and safety performance over the years. Integral to that has been the visible safety leadership and ownership of our continual improvement initiatives by all.”
