Accreditation- Well-known quality mark is flying high

BSI’s Kitemark® is at 138 in the Top 500 Business Superbrands Chart for 2009 – up 105 places on last year, which was the first time the well-known symbol figured in the chart. The Kitemark demonstrates that products – from lighting to fire extinguishers – conform to standards ensuring that vital safety and performance requirements are met.The Business Superbrands table is published by the Centre for Brand Analysis, following an assessment by an independent council of experts and more than 1500 business professionals.BSI – which is itself a Superbrand, standing at 204 in the chart – points out that not only is the Kitemark highly rated in the business sector but it commands respect among consumers, too. A recent YouGov survey found that almost half of purchasers (49 per cent) look for the mark when buying goods and services.Recently, the Kitemark went online with a new service called Kitemark.com, which, says BSI, makes it easy for businesses and consumers to check which products and manufacturers have gone through the organisation’s rigorous standards process and have been awarded a Kitemark. In February, BSI launched a new Kitemark scheme for emergency-lighting installers, confirming that holders understand and comply fully with the requirements of the latest standards and guidelines relating to emergency lighting, as well as Kitemark scheme criteria. The scheme complements those already in existence for electrical and fire-alarm installers.
