Housing group’s safety campaign wins business award
North-west housing group Regenda has won a prestigious award following the launch of its ‘We Care’ health and safety project.
Regenda provides housing for more than 30 local authorities, including sheltered housing, and it was recently named the winner of the health and safety category at the Best Business Awards. The awards recognise excellence in organisations, ranging from large companies to public-sector bodies and SMEs, in various categories.
The We Care campaign, which was launched earlier this year, was recognised for its dedication to conveying a number of simple messages to employees about the importance of health and safety in their daily jobs.
The project also protects lone workers by issuing them with Blackberry phones, so they can raise an alarm should they encounter a volatile situation when working alone. Regenda’s front-line staff often work with tenants who have anti-social behaviour or rent-arrears problems, so the new phones should provide an extra level of security for staff.
The housing group’s health, safety and facilities manager, Matthew Callcott, was delighted to accept the award. He said: “We were thrilled to receive this award, which acknowledges the hard work and thought that was put into coming up with a campaign that made health and safety relevant to our staff.
“It is an important subject, but can often be seen as overly-bureaucratic and complicated. We wanted to produce something that staff would accept and work with, helping us work towards our motto of working together in safety.”
