Understanding machine safety

If your organisation uses or supplies machinery as part of its operations, you need a clear understanding of what is required for legal compliance, while employers and staff in any field of work should familiarise themselves with their rights and duties in the workplace under new machine-safety legislation.

A new book authored by John Glover and available from BSI British Standards aims to be an invaluable guide to managing the risks associated with machinery and work equipment.

BSI says the book can help organisations manage risk in the workplace by providing:

  • answers to the most frequently-asked machinery-safety questions;
  • practical health and safety solutions in a simple and straightforward format;
  • a common-sense approach on how to meet the stringent legal requirements; and
  • guidance in line with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, which came into force in December last year.

Illustrated with real-life case studies, the book examines common queries arising from the various standards, regulations and best practices relating to the safe design and use of work equipment in industry.

The book, entitled ‘Risk management of machinery and work equipment’, BSI order ref: BIP 2184, ISBN: 978 0 580 67515 7, is priced at £25.
