'Mock trial' event

London Health & Safety Group to host ‘mock trial’ event next week

Enhance your understanding of health & safety and fire safety incidents and what can go wrong for duty holders in the event of a fire.

The London Health & Safety Group (LHSG) and Russell Cooke Solicitors are hosting a ‘mock trial’ event in London on Monday 23 September. Attendees will be given the chance to take part in a full criminal ‘trial’ based on a fire incident in the UK.

Hosted by ‘Judge’ Kizzy Augustin, Partner at Russell Cooke Solicitors, delegates will get an opportunity to see what can happen to a defendant company if they are prosecuted for a serious fire incident in the UK.

The audience, playing the part of the jury, will be invited to participate, getting the chance to observe how the company gives their evidence and how they fare under firm cross-examination from the prosecution.

With lawyers from Russell Cooke Solicitors in charge of proceedings (and members from LHSG playing the part of the witnesses), this scenario will introduce attendees to the consequences of a fire safety incident through an interactive criminal trial.

Audience members, the jury, will then decide whether the company is guilty or not guilty of the alleged offences.

This event will enhance your understanding of health & safety and fire safety incidents and what can go wrong for duty holders in the event of a fire. It may also assist with your approach to mitigating exposure to risk and reducing liability.

A brilliant workshop role-play tool, not only to bring children up to speed and giving them a “reality-check” by running Teen Courts but, an experiential learning opportunity for adults used to tick-box courses with far greater impact than going through the motions paying lip service to the subject.
